Project

Mission

Our mission is to assist and support each generation within the Bugandan Community. We believe that to be successful in life, a person should not only be educated in academics, but have a well-balanced educational plan. Including self-awareness in spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. A person can achieve great things in academics, but without the tools to implement this knowledge, they limit their ability for success.

We also believe that if a person does not have the means to complete a full education, it should not hinder their ability to have a successful career and prosperous life. Life experiences are what build us as people, not what tear us down.

Dorms

All children who come and want food, clothing, showers, counseling, games and/or a bed will have equal access to all services. Each child will be requested to provide ability for a photo, a name, and an age upon arrival. This information will be kept in a file, that will be added to, as staff get to know the children and the community (parents, probation officers, police, social workers) in hopes of finding them permanent residency.

House

The house will work towards integrating the children, who don’t have the ability or desire to attend school, into the community, by providing life and technical skills classes. These classes will help them recognize their abilities and potential, gaining the work experience necessary to begin independent living.

School (long term goal)

The objective of the school is to provide quality education at a reasonable cost. We want the children to be able to apply the skills learned from academics into real life situations. This will be done through life-skills training and reasoning incorporated into the curriculum.

The teachers and staff will go through regular training and planning sessions to ensure that they are working together and towards the same educational objectives. The teachers and staff will participate in regular life skills training to ensure they have the tools to be able to teach the curriculum.

The community will take an active role in participating in the achievement of the children’s learning. The community should be engaged in the activities of the school. The parents should be sensitized to the important aspects of educating their child both at home and at school.

The children will actively participate in leadership roles throughout the school. There will be opportunity to lead activities around their physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional needs. This will be done by having a student council, peer support, school paper, and peer tutoring programs. There will also be opportunity for other programs to develop as the children see needed.

The children who stay at the project dorms will have an opportunity to move to a boarding room and attend the school for free. This would be free until a legal guardian is found and then one more year will be provided to assist the transition process into guardianship.

It's a big step, but we see the potential in these children, and the community around them.

Community Centre (long long term goal)

There will be a community support worker on staff. This person will be responsible for organizing community sensitization projects including, but not limited to: education, health, sexual health, mental health, violence, wellness planning, and other life-skills training.

This program will also be responsible for engaging the community in events such as bonfires, concerts, elders’ tea, luncheons, guest speakers, movie nights, family nights, holidays, and other community events that will bring people together in a safe and friendly environment.

The support worker will also have access to resources for individuals seeking help with social problems, including family violence, legal matters, housing issues, food security, and other questions or concerns.
